HIBAPRESS-RABAT-PRESS RELEASE
Several French and Moroccan elected officials compared, at the Senate headquarters in Paris, the experiences of Morocco and France in terms of ecological transition.
Placed under the theme of “ecological transition in the territories: crossed perspectives”, the 3rd France-Morocco Forum of Elected Officials saw the participation of political figures from all sides and experts from both countries.
Speaking at the opening of this Forum, which marks the tenth anniversary of the Cercle Eugène Delacroix (CED), initiator of the event, HM the King’s ambassador in Paris, Samira Sitail indicated that this association was able to impose itself as “a circle of reflection”, carrying a set of values which bring together the elected representatives of France and Morocco, who, each at their own level, contributes to the building of rapprochement between the two countries.
Ms. Sitail praised, on this occasion, the progress accomplished by the Circle in ten years, while calling, in the context of this new stage of the Franco-Moroccan relationship, to embody the values of dialogue, solidarity and cooperation which are the strength of this relationship.
For her part, the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, via a video intervention, indicated that the numerous agreements signed between the two countries, during the recent state visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Morocco, are “the sign of a new generation of more ambitious and bolder strategic partnerships to meet the various challenges that arise for France and Morocco”.
Morocco, she continued, today brings together a set of regulatory, institutional and technical assets, favorable to the production of energy, electrons, competitive and low-carbon molecules.
The multiple areas of cooperation (hydrogen, low-carbon energy, energy efficiency, etc.) between our two countries all aim to increase our connectivity, “a logical consequence of the importance of the human and cultural ties that unite us”, underlined the minister.
For her part, the French Minister in charge of Energy, Olga Givernet indicated, via a video intervention, that the Franco-Moroccan relationship has reached “a new milestone” thanks to the state visit of the French president to Morocco.
The French minister stressed that this historic visit intensified ties between the two countries, while recalling that Morocco is France’s leading economic partner in Africa.
The relationship of fraternity, exchange and cooperation which unites the two countries, she rejoiced, is also found on subjects of energy transition.
“It’s a subject that brings us together more than ever. It is now up to all of us to maintain this historic relationship,” she added.
Senator Roger Karoutchi, vice-president of the France-Morocco friendship group in the Senate, for his part, indicated that Morocco not only represents the future of all of northern Africa, but it is also on the way to become “a central hub of activity” for the entire African continent.
The modernization carried out by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in recent years in the Kingdom is truly “remarkable”, he underlined, insisting on the need to maintain “this unique relationship” between Morocco and France, marked by friendship and understanding.
Structured around three thematic round tables, the “France-Morocco” Forum of Elected Officials explores in particular the achievements of the two countries in terms of ecological transition, their energy transition models, as well as the efforts and commitment of the diasporas in this area.
