Zanzibar will host the final stages of the African School Football Championship

It is Zanzibar, this very touristy archipelago located on the outskirts of Tanzania, which was chosen to host the final phases of the 2024 edition of the African School Football Championship.

The teams qualified for the second season of the largest football competition dedicated to schoolchildren in Africa will take place from May 21 to 24, at the Amaan stadium, a completely renovated venue, for the occasion.

Dr Motsepe, CAF President, and several African football legends will attend this competition which will highlight the zonal champions in this age category.

Initiated by President Motsepe, this championship dedicated to young schoolchildren under 15 years old is a first in the world of football. Only boys and girls under the age of 15 can participate.

Building on the success of its inaugural edition, this season saw a 40% increase in participation, with 804,480 young boys and girls from 28,862 schools and coming from 44 countries.

In addition to offering young people the opportunity to participate in an international tournament, the competition has a capacity building program that allows students, coaches and educators to acquire unique skills.

Throughout the qualifiers, CAF deployed various programs such as that of young reporters, the young referees program, the young medical officers program, the D license coaching course, as well as workshops dedicated to prevention and protection organized by CAF.

Like last season, the final of the African School Football Championship is expected to be followed by CAF legends to inspire and encourage budding footballers.

The winners of the men’s and women’s competitions will each receive USD 300,000, runners-up USD 200,000, while the bronze medalists will each take home USD 150,000. Donations offered by the Motsepe Foundation in partnership with CAF, which will be used for development projects in schools.
