The Directorate of Studies and Financial Forecasts indicated that Morocco welcomed the equivalent of 3.3 million tourists during the first quarter of 2024, representing growth of 12.8% compared to the same period of the year. last year.
In its latest bulletin on the economic situation, the Management explained that the tourism sector indicators have maintained their dynamism (number of tourists and overnight stays).
Thus, the influx of tourists to the destination “Morocco” increased by 12.8% in the first quarter of 2024, driven by the performances of the months of March, February and January 2024 (which respectively recorded increases of 10.2 %, 17.9% and 10.4%).
The same report highlighted that this growth is attributable to an increase of 15.4% in the number of foreign tourists and 9.8% of Moroccans residing abroad.
The Management specified that compared to the first quarter of 2019, the number of visitors to Morocco increased by 31.6%.
Regarding the added value of the tourism sector, it has almost returned to its pre-crisis level (reference year 2019), i.e. 98.3% on average, after 80.5% the previous year.
In addition, the Directorate confirmed that the number of nights recorded in classified accommodation establishments increased by 7.3% on an annual basis, for the first two months of 2024, supported by an 11% growth in nights of non-residents and mitigated by a 1% drop in resident overnight stays.
Compared to the end of February 2019, these nights increased by 11.1%, after increases of 10.7% at the end of February 2024 and 3.6% at the end of February 2023.
Regarding tourism receipts, they decreased by 6.7% on an annual basis at the end of February 2024, after a contraction of 10.5% a month earlier. However, compared to those recorded before the crisis, these revenues remain considerably high (up 40.4%).
