Faced with the hazards of exacerbating climate change: agricultural research at the service of the Generation Green agricultural strategy 2020-2030

HIBAPRESS-RABAT
Faced with the vagaries of exacerbating climate change, Moroccan agriculture is faced with recurring droughts, a threatening water shortage and an increasingly growing demand for food.
To this end, the National Institute of Agricultural Research (INRA) has just launched the publication of three works on its research which contribute to the efforts of the Generation Green 2020-2030 agricultural strategy to ensure food sovereignty in Morocco.
1-Agronomic Research: a lever for the resilience of Moroccan agriculture. Composed of 23 chapters divided into 5 Parts, this work highlights the essential role of agricultural research in the development of resilient agriculture in the face of climatic and food challenges. It offers an in-depth exploration of advances in agricultural research and their practical application to shape a resilient, sustainable and sovereign agricultural future in Morocco.
The different parts of the book address themes dealing with progress in genetic improvement and natural resource management, as well as the opportunities and challenges relating to crop and livestock systems.
2- CGMS-Morocco: Artificial intelligence at the service of resilient agriculture in the face of drought. Emanating from a leading scientific collaboration between INRA, IAV Hassan II, DGM and DSS-MAPMDREF, the CGMS-Morocco system embodies the excellence of Moroccan expertise in agritech. It marks a significant step forward in the development of innovative digital solutions to strengthen the resilience of Moroccan agriculture in the face of climatic hazards. The work in question details the history, architecture, technological components, results and prospects for improvement of the system. It is aimed at a wide audience, eager to use this high-impact tool.
3- Research for Promoting Sustainable Farming Systems in Arid and Semi-Arid Areas of Morocco, Challenges, Achievements and Future Prospects. Summary of the results of several years of research in arid zones in Morocco. It introduces, through its 18 chapters, the main challenges of agriculture in arid zones and the different strategies highlighted by INRA and ICARDA researchers to reflect scientific progress on agricultural practices in these vulnerable areas. Progress that concerns several areas such as the use of agricultural land for strategic crops, efficient use of water and soil fertility, integrated management of parasites and weeds, biodiversity, etc.
These solutions offer an opportunity to experiment with different integrated management models, sometimes involving farmers, to prove the viability of agriculture in these fragile areas by encouraging resilient and sustainable agricultural practices.
