In a new achievement which reflects the leadership of the Kingdom of Morocco in the field of legal and judicial cooperation at the international level, the Council of General and Political Affairs of the Conference of the Hague of Private International Law approved unanimously, Thursday, March 6, 2025, the proposal of the Kingdom of Morocco to welcome a regional office for the African continent, the first office of this type in the continent.

As part of the success of this project, the Ministry of Justice worked in close coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans abroad and the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in the Netherlands to fulfill all the legal, organizational and political conditions to welcome this office, including the preparation of the project of siege agreement, the acceleration of the ratification of the conventions of the relevant haye, as well as Conference members.

During the ratification session, the Moroccan delegation made a detailed presentation of the proposal, stressing its importance and its role in promoting judicial cooperation between African countries. The Moroccan proposal has received broad support, 33 countries that have expressed their full support for this ambitious project, which aims to strengthen the commitment of African countries in the mechanisms of private international law.

This new regional office represents an essential platform for the strengthening of judicial and legal cooperation on the African continent, because it will provide a framework and support for the implementation of international conventions from the Hague Conference, thus contributing to the consolidation of legal and judicial certainty through borders and facilitating legal integration between the different judicial systems in Africa.

This achievement confirms the position of leader of Morocco in the legal and judicial field, since it is the only African and Arab country to have ratified seven major conventions of the conference of the Hague in private international law. This development is part of the active role of the kingdom within regional and international organizations, in particular within the framework of the League of Arab States, where Morocco actively contributes to the development of common legal action and to the promotion of modern judicial mechanisms.

While appreciating this decision, the Kingdom of Morocco affirms its commitment to continue to support efforts aimed at strengthening legal and judicial cooperation at regional and international levels, in order to serve the aspirations of African countries to develop a more harmonious and more effective judicial system that is in line with the rapid changes that occur in the world.
