Sadiki: “The ministry is working on updating the legal arsenal governing the forestry sector”

The Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, Mohamed Sadiki, indicated Monday in Rabat, during the oral questions session in the House of Representatives, that the ministry is currently working on the updating of the legal arsenal governing the forestry domain.

In response to a question on “the delimitation of the forest domain” posed by the Democratic and Social Constitutional group, Mr. Sadiki clarified that the completion of this process is a strategic priority for the ministry, highlighting the efforts of the department which have enabled to demarcate 98% of the forest domain, to validate the final delimitation operations covering an area estimated at 8 million hectares, and to register 6.5 million hectares, or the equivalent of 67% of the domain.

Mr. Sadiki also explained that the approach adopted for the completion of the delimitation and security of the forest estate is based on the amicable settlement of land conflicts with private individuals, as well as on the resolution of disputes between administrations thanks to regional and central joint committees. The efforts thus deployed resulted in the resolution of conflicts over the boundaries of the forest domain with private property in several regions, notably Tiznit, Khénifra and Chtouka-Aït Baha, as well as with collective lands in the regions of Boulemane, Jerada, Taourirt and Midelt, declared the minister, ensuring that the department is continuing its efforts to resolve the pending files relating to the oppositions.
