Dozens of migrants of different nationalities are confronted with difficult humanitarian conditions in the occupied city of Melilla, after the authorities left them since Sunday, March 2, 2025, in the shadow of cold and heavy rainy rains.
These minors have been forced to sleep in temporary tents in front of the temporary residence center for immigrants, after failing to record asylum requests via the new electronic system imposed by the Spanish authorities since February 27.
This decision sparked a wave of anger and criticism because the accusations aimed at the central government not to provide minimal human care.
While the crisis continued for several days, the city government suddenly intervened, announcing the transfer of migrants to a hotel Thursday evening, in a decision that he came “outside of humanity and solidarity”, but blamed the government delegate, accusing him of not receiving these minors in temporary protection centers.
In a strong reaction, the chief of the municipal council described the position of the central government as “inhuman”, stressing that leaving 14 asylum seekers in the street in the rain is “unacceptable in any way”. He stressed that this file reveals “serious negligence” by the responsible authorities, calling for urgent measures to ensure the rights of these children and put an end to their suffering.
