Operation Transit 2024: Meeting in Tangier of the Moroccan-Spanish joint commission

The joint Moroccan-Spanish Transit Commission met on Monday in Tangier, under the co-chairmanship of Mr. Khalid Zerouali, Wali, Director of Migration and Border Surveillance, and Ms. Susana Crisostomo, Undersecretary of Spanish State at the Interior.

The discussions focused on the operational mechanisms put in place by the two parties, in order to guarantee the best conditions for the progress of the transit 2024 operation, particularly in terms of fluidity, security and safety, as well as assistance measures. and proximity, and communication actions.

Thus, the national system brings together all sectoral interventions, in which the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity plays a central role, through the establishment of a vast social assistance system, by mobilizing specialized teams and significant resources at the national and international levels.

This system also includes a coherent fleet plan, integrating 29 ships and 7 maritime operators, serving 11 maritime lines offering an overall capacity of more than 7 million passengers, 2 million vehicles and 8,000 rotations.

It also includes a major investment in upgrading port infrastructure in Tanger-Med, Tangier city, Nador and Al Hoceima, with improvements in comfort and facilitation for passengers (relaxation islands, shaded areas, walkways, display and signage system, dredging of car-ferry posts).

The plan also emphasizes the mobilization of local authorities, in particular the establishment of ad hoc cells in the provinces and prefectures, the strengthening of the workforce of the mobilized security services and the mobilization of the consular representations of Morocco in Spain with daily hours provided, including weekends and public holidays.

To this end, important measures have been taken in maritime and road transport, including in particular technical inspection campaigns for ships and the mobilization of land transport inspectors.

To support this operation, a multimedia communication strategy intended for Moroccan nationals residing abroad was developed, in particular for the popularization of practical information, through the Marhaba website set up by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity.

The Spanish operational system includes in particular the strengthening of port processing capacity, the mobilization of security corps and port police agents, assistance from the Red Cross, as well as the establishment of coordination centers and zones rest and information.

Furthermore, the two parties agreed to strengthen coordination between the focal points for a good circulation of information and to anticipate certain aspects linked to the management of peak days, the interchangeability of tickets and the fight against speculation in the price of sea crossings.
