The verdict is in and the suspense for the title of best African player in French Ligue 1 this year is revealed and it is finally Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Olympique de Marseille (35 years old) who won the title for the 2023 season -2024 thus ahead of Achraf Hakimi of Paris Saint-Germain.
The Gabonese striker from Olympique de Marseille received the UNFP trophy for best player during a ceremony.
Aubameyang has had an exceptional season. He is one of the top scorers in the championship with 16 goals and 8 assists. His offensive impact was crucial for OM, and he was a driving force in the club’s European epic, which was eliminated in the semi-final of the Europa League by Atalanta Bergamo. He was voted best African player in Ligue 1 for the first time in 2013 with AS Saint-Étienne. He thus becomes the first player to win this Prize twice with two different clubs.
Second in the ranking, Achraf Hakimi, the Moroccan right back of PSG, also had a remarkable season. He was a pillar of the Parisian defense, which conceded the fewest goals in the championship. His offensive contribution was not negligible either, since he scored 4 goals and delivered 5 assists. He was elected to the standard Ligue 1 team by his peers.
