From June, launch of the “Opportunity Map” for those who wish to immigrate and work in Germany.

A golden opportunity, this is how many observers of subjects linked to immigration and work contracts abroad have described the launch of the application of the “Opportunity Map” by the German government to attract skills and foreign labor.

In this regard, Germany has started to apply the third phase of the Worker Immigration Law linked to a tool called “Opportunity Map” which targets skilled workers outside the European Union and aims to facilitate their transition to Germany without requiring an employment contract with an employer.

Since June 1, Germany has implemented the third phase of the Skilled Worker Immigration Act, reformed last year in 2023. German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser told media his country: “This way we guarantee that the skilled workers our economy has sorely needed for years can come to our country.”

The third phase concerns the so-called “Opportunity Map”, which targets skilled workers outside the European Union. This tool aims to facilitate the transition of skilled workers to Germany without requiring an employment contract with an employer.

However, the main condition for obtaining the opportunity card is that the migrant has completed professional training of at least two years or obtained a university degree in their country, in addition to having language skills in German or English.

Depending on the level of language proficiency, work experience, age and connection to Germany, prospective immigrants earn points that qualify them to obtain the Opportunity Card. Qualification holders in occupations with labor shortages in Germany can also earn points. Thanks to this card, foreigners from outside the European Union can then come to Germany and benefit from a period of one year to find permanent employment.
