As Eid al-Adha approaches… spectacular increases in the prices of spices and dried fruits.

Eid al-Adha is approaching, and with it, the question of purchasing the sacrifice becomes the most discussed subject throughout this joyful country, from north to south, so much so that young and old alike memorize and know the price of each breed of sheep and goats by heart.
This year, livestock prices have seen a significant increase, even with the arrival of imported herds on the local market. However, speculators, like every year, take advantage of the Eid occasion to make additional profits by controlling sales prices, particularly in markets and public places.
Animals are not the only ones to see their selling prices increase, because opportunistic traders, only caring about accumulating profits even to the detriment of the most vulnerable and their needs, have increased the price of all commodities. everyday consumption in high demand during Eid al-Adha.
In this regard, the selling prices of spices and certain dried fruits have seen a notable increase in recent days, such as pepper, cumin and several types of herbs which are widely consumed during the holidays.
Likewise, the prices of apricots, prunes and raisins increased, with an increase of 5 to 10 dirhams per kilogram, which was justified by some professionals by an increase in production costs during a difficult agricultural season. .
According to what Hiba Press observed in certain markets in Casablanca specializing in the sale of spices and dried fruits, there is great reluctance among citizens regarding price increases for these highly demanded products during the holidays. However, the urgent need for these products has pushed most of them to purchase them, even in small quantities, while waiting for prices to return to normal after the end of Eid.
