Sahara issue: Brazil welcomes Morocco’s serious and credible efforts

The Federative Republic of Brazil welcomes Morocco’s serious and credible efforts to move forward towards a settlement of the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, within the framework of the autonomy initiative presented by the Kingdom in 2007.

This position was expressed in a joint statement, adopted following talks, Friday in Rabat, between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, and the Brazilian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, on official visit to Morocco.

In this regard, Brazil, which chaired the United Nations Security Council in October 2023 when Resolution 2703 was adopted, reiterated its support for UN efforts to achieve a political and mutually acceptable solution to the question of the Moroccan Sahara, in accordance with the relevant UN resolutions.
