Road safety: Launch of on-board radars in the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region


The National Road Safety Agency (NARSA) kicked off the deployment of on-board radars in the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region on Saturday.

On this occasion, the wali of the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region, governor of the province of Laâyoune, Abdeslam Bekrate, accompanied by elected officials, NARSA officials, representatives of the Provisional Directorate for the development of the RN1 between Tiznit and Dakhla and civil society actors working in the field of road safety, went to the northern entrance to the expressway of the city of Laâyoune, to attend a field demonstration of this new device based on latest generation technologies, in order to strengthen speed control, both in urban and peri-urban environments.

The unveiled road offense detection system has advanced features to effectively monitor compliance with the Highway Code.

This operation is also part of the implementation of the Regional Road Safety Plan, with a view to effectively combating the scourge of speeding, the main cause of fatal accidents in the region.

In a statement to MAP, the regional director of NARSA for the regions of Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra and Dakhla-Oued Eddahab, Omar Boudani, stressed that the commissioning of this new device will make it possible to improve security indicators. road, and to strengthen the control of dangerous behavior inside and outside the urban perimeter, particularly after the completion of sections of the expressway at the regional level.

Mr. Boudani, in this regard, indicated that these on-board radars are capable of automatically detecting different types of offenses, in particular speeding and faulty overtaking, for light and heavy vehicles.

The detection of offenses takes place at the level of the National Center for Processing Offenses (NARSA), he said, noting that instant reading of license plates makes it possible to precisely identify offenders.

The NARSA Regional Directorate received two vehicles equipped with this new device based on the latest generation technologies. This system works in both directions of traffic and has energy autonomy thanks to an intelligent battery which gives it mobility and flexibility to cover large areas.

Alongside the launch of this new system, an awareness campaign organized by associations working in the field of road safety was launched for the benefit of passengers and professional drivers on the importance of respecting the Highway Code, The approach of the Aid Adha festival and the school holidays.
