With figures and indicators: The Benmoussa ministry presents its annual report

The Ministry of National Education, Preschool Education and Sports announced that it had published on its official portal the documents relating to “Summary of education statistics” and “Summary of education indicators”, which identify in figures and indicators the results of the national education and preschool education sector for the 2023/2024 school year.

This statistical assessment of the current school year highlights the efforts made by the ministry and reflects the positive commitment of all partners in the system to implement the provisions of the framework law relating to the education system, training and scientific research, as well as to achieve the objectives and commitments of the 2022-2026 roadmap.

According to a press release from the ministry, this positive and encouraging assessment was recorded despite the particular context and the challenges which marked the start of this school year.

In this context, all components and areas of the education system experienced notable developments during the 2023/2024 school year, with an increase in the number of students and an expansion of school offerings, particularly in rural areas, while continuing to generalize quality preschool education and strengthening social support programs to reduce school dropouts.

Thus, the total number of students in public education, all cycles combined, including preschool education, for the 2023/2024 school year, amounts to 7,392,050 students, an increase of 1.1 % compared to the previous school year. Girls represent 48.9% of all students, with a notable increase in the number of students in the secondary cycle, reaching 1,918,691 students, an increase of 4.25%.

For preschool education, the generalization of school enrollment of children aged 4 to 5 years old reached 78.7%, with an increase of 2.2% in the number of students during this year, reaching a total of 951 596 students. The extension of school provision, particularly in rural areas, supported by the National Initiative for Human Development and the adoption of delegated management, has contributed to accelerating the generalization of quality preschool education.

The ministry has also strengthened social support programs to ensure equal opportunities among students and reduce school dropouts, particularly in rural areas. Thus, 4,459,478 beneficiaries benefited from the royal initiative “One million schoolbags” this school year, 1,040,615 students benefited from school meals, and the number of school transport beneficiaries reached 580,266, including 83, 3% in rural areas.

Regarding school dropouts, the efforts made by the various stakeholders have made it possible to reduce the number of dropouts by 12%, going from 334,664 in 2021/2022 to 294,458 in 2022/2023, including 45.5% in rural environment. Girls represent 38.64% of all dropouts. It should be noted that 62% of dropouts are over 16 years old.
