The electoral campaign for the first round of early legislative elections, which will take place on June 30 in France, began on Monday, in a particular context marked in particular by the urgent formation of political alliances in order to counter the rise to power of the National Rally (RN), winner of the last European elections.
Following the announcement on June 9 by French President Emmanuel Macron of the dissolution of the National Assembly and the calling of early legislative elections after the RN’s unprecedented score (31.47%) in the Europeans, the left-wing parties created a popular front, a part of the right made up mainly of “The Republicans” joined the RN and the Renaissance presidential majority announced new measures to win back its electorate.
Candidates for the 577 seats in the National Assembly had until 6 p.m. Sunday to submit their candidacy.
The electoral campaign will revolve around themes linked mainly to purchasing power, security and immigration.
