BM-IMF Annual Meetings: Arrival in Marrakech of the IMF DG

The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, arrived Friday afternoon in Marrakech, at the head of a delegation from the Fund, to take part in the work of the Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and the FMI, scheduled for October 9 to 15.
Welcomed at the Marrakech-Menara international airport by Ms. Nadia Fettah, Minister of Economy and Finance, Mr. Georgieva expressed his joy at coming to Morocco to attend these Assemblies, describing Morocco as a “magnificent country”. with a strong people.
“We are together in Morocco to show our solidarity with this country that I love,” she said, in a statement to the press.
On the occasion of the IMF/WB Annual Meetings, “Morocco today welcomes the elite of world finance with the hospitality marking our country”, indicated, for her part, Ms. Nadia Fettah, specifying that the WB Annual Meetings -IMF, which return to African soil after 50 years of absence, constitute an extremely important opportunity to address and discuss many major themes relating to the future of the world.
“Morocco is honored by the organization of this major event despite the earthquake”, which struck several regions of the Kingdom, underlined Ms. Fettah.
According to the organizers, this large-scale event will bring together some 14,000 participants from all over the world, including around 4,500 representatives of the 189 delegations officially led by finance ministers and central bank governors.
These Assemblies will serve as an opportunity to debate global economic issues, development challenges, and financing policies in a context of slowdown exacerbated by rising geopolitical tensions.
On the menu of the WB/IMF annual meetings are side-events to discuss several issues relating in particular to the energy crisis, climate challenges, migration, international cooperation, post-Covid recovery and political fragmentation and economic at the global level.
