HIBAPRESS – Chafiq Anouri

The issue of nighttime disturbances caused by some event halls due to the use of fireworks at late hours has reached the dome of the legislative institution.

This came through a parliamentary question addressed by MP Hassan Oumribit, a member of the Progress and Socialism Party, to the Minister of Interior, regarding the nighttime disturbances resulting from the use of fireworks by some event halls and celebrations. Oumribit said that the phenomenon of launching fireworks from some event halls, especially those located near or in residential neighborhoods, at late hours of the night, "arouses the displeasure of the residents." The MP added that celebrating weddings and happy occasions and displaying manifestations of joy is considered legitimate and desirable social behavior, as long as it is done within the framework of respecting the law and taking into account the freedom of others. However, the MP continued, "when moments of joy for some turn into moments of panic, anxiety and fear for neighboring residents, due to the sounds of fireworks, especially in the late hours of the night, this constitutes a clear breach of public order, and a violation of the comfort and tranquility of citizens." He explained that he had received "several complaints from affected citizens, especially families with patients, young children or elderly people, who are subjected to repeated harassment from these practices, without the necessary action being taken by the local authorities to alert the hall owners to respect the law and the regulations of public tranquility." Based on this, the MP questioned the Minister of Interior about the measures his ministry will take to "curb this phenomenon by warning and monitoring event halls that use fireworks at night and extend the party segments to the early hours of the following day, and about the extent of the Interior's services' intention to issue strict directives to the local authorities in order to deter this phenomenon that affects public comfort and disturbs the peace of residents."
