The General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration issued a clarification to the public, categorically denying the allegations made in a video circulating on social media, which was published by a person known for their criminal record.
The aforementioned recording included a number of serious accusations, including "deaths among prisoners in the Ait Melloul local prison," "deprivation of medical assistance for injured prisoners," in addition to "the exposure of minor prisoners to torture, rape, and psychological intimidation."
The General Delegation affirmed in its statement that these allegations are baseless, noting that no deaths have been recorded among the detainees against the backdrop of recent events in some areas, whether in Ait Melloul 1 or Ait Melloul 2 local prisons.
It also clarified that what was circulated regarding the injury of a number of prisoners relates to four juvenile prisoners, who are held in Ait Melloul 2 local prison, and they are in stable health, and they receive continuous medical follow-up from the medical staff of the institution.
Regarding the conditions of detention for juvenile prisoners, the delegation emphasized that they are placed in rooms designated for this category, which meet the necessary health standards, and they are treated in a manner befitting their status as a vulnerable group, with the provision of care and psychological and social monitoring.
The delegation categorically denied the serious allegations related to torture and rape, describing them as "false claims" that have nothing to do with reality, stressing its keenness to preserve the dignity of inmates and respect their rights, especially the vulnerable groups among them.
In conclusion of its statement, the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration announced that it had decided to file a complaint against the video owner with the competent Public Prosecution, given the seriousness of the accusations contained in the recording, and its impact on the reputation of the institution and the disruption of public opinion.
