The number of mobile phones in Morocco exceeds 55.4 million subscribers

The Directorate of Studies and Financial Forecasts, under the Ministry of Economy and Finance, indicated that the number of mobile phones in Morocco increased by 4.8% to exceed 55.4 million subscribers during the first quarter of 2024.

In its latest economic situation note, management specified that “the telecommunications sector started the year 2024 in a positive manner, with an increase in the number of mobile phones of 4.8% during the first quarter of 2024, after a increase of 3.1% the previous year, thus exceeding 55.4 million subscribers.”

The same source added that, as a result, the penetration rate of this category increased to 149.7% at the end of last March, compared to 144.2% the previous year and 127% at the end of March 2019.

Management also noted that the landline base grew 9.3% during the first quarter of 2024, following a 5.5% increase a year earlier.

As for the Internet base, it increased by 7.5% to reach 38.3 million subscribers, recording a penetration rate of 103.5%, compared to 97.2% in the first quarter of 2023 and 65.6 % in the first quarter of 2019.

The number of company data connections increased by 2.1%, and the number of “.ma” domains increased by 5%.
