HIBAPRESS – Mohamed Zeriyouh
Bouqana beach, belonging to the Nador region, witnessed an unprecedented security alert this Monday, October 13, after the sea waves threw large quantities of "chira" drugs that were packed inside tightly sealed bags. It is likely that their source is an international network specializing in drug smuggling across the Mediterranean Sea.
Reliable sources confirmed that a number of citizens were surprised by the appearance of strange bags floating on the surface of the water. They informed the authorities, who quickly moved to the scene. A large-scale combing operation was immediately carried out along the beach, with the participation of elements from the Royal Gendarmerie, the Judicial Police, and local authorities, in search of any additional quantities that the sea might have thrown. Preliminary data indicates that the seized bags match in shape and packaging with shipments previously seized in similar smuggling operations during the past years, which reinforces the possibility that they are part of a failed illegal transfer operation that was thwarted in the open sea, either due to weather disturbances or as a result of a possible security intervention. It is worth mentioning that the coasts of Bouqana beach and the surrounding areas have recently become a frequent scene for the discovery of quantities of drugs, as a result of the exploitation of the smuggling networks of the geographical nature of the region and its proximity to the Spanish coasts as a crossing point towards the northern shore. The Moroccan security services continue their investigations to determine the source of this shipment and the identity of the potential suspects, within the framework of the national efforts aimed at combating drug smuggling and cross-border organized crime, as maritime monitoring operations continue using advanced technologies and reconnaissance aircraft to enhance security along the northern coasts of the Kingdom.
