The Republic of Malawi reiterated, today, Friday, its “constant” position supporting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Morocco over all its territories, including the Sahara region.
This position was expressed by the new Malawian Minister of Foreign Affairs, George Chaponda (member of parliament), during telephone talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita. He also praised the "increasing international consensus" and the momentum given by King Mohammed VI to the autonomy plan presented by Morocco. In this context, he reiterated the Republic of Malawi's support for this plan, considering it "the only reliable and realistic solution" to settle this dispute. On the other hand, the Malawian Minister praised the efforts of the United Nations, as the exclusive framework for reaching a solution. The two ministers took this opportunity to reaffirm their determination to give a strategic dynamic to multi-sectoral cooperation between the two countries, through existing diplomatic representations, including the Consulate General of Malawi in Laayoune, which began its work in December 2023. This dynamic aims to strengthen bilateral relations in line with the aspirations of the leaders of the two countries.
