National security elements at Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca succeeded, today, Saturday, in arresting a 34-year-old Russian citizen, as he is the subject of an international arrest warrant issued against him by the judicial authorities of the Russian Federation.
A security source stated that the person concerned was arrested immediately after his arrival on a flight from Mauritania, where a screening process in the database of the International Criminal Police Organization "Interpol" showed that he was wanted internationally at the request of the National Central Bureau in Moscow, to execute a prison sentence issued against him by the Russian judiciary, on suspicion of his involvement in joining a terrorist organization. The person concerned was subjected to custody measures pending the extradition procedure, in implementation of the instructions of the competent Public Prosecution, while the National Central Bureau "Interpol Rabat", affiliated with the General Directorate of National Security, was tasked with notifying its counterpart in Russia of the arrest. The arrest of the suspect comes within the context of the commitment of the Moroccan security services to activate international security cooperation mechanisms, especially the pursuit and arrest of persons wanted internationally in cases of transnational crime.
