The Republic of Paraguay today, Wednesday, embodied its recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara by announcing the opening of a consulate general.
During his talks in Rabat with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Paraguay, Rubén Ramírez Lezcano, reiterated his country's full support for Morocco's sovereignty over its Sahara and for the autonomy initiative presented by the Kingdom in 2007, which is considered the only serious, reliable, and realistic basis for resolving this regional dispute. On this occasion, the head of Paraguayan diplomacy announced his country's decision to open a consulate general in the southern provinces soon, as an indicator of clear support for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom. This position comes as an extension of Asunción's withdrawal of its recognition of the phantom entity in 2014, as well as within the framework of a series of joint declarations and political consultations, which have since strengthened Paraguay's support for the national cause of Morocco. The decision to open a consulate general in the southern provinces of the Kingdom represents a strong political act, reflecting the growing recognition in Latin America of Morocco's sovereignty over its southern provinces and the strength of the bonds of friendship and cooperation that unite the Kingdom of Morocco with the Republic of Paraguay.
