HIBAPRESS – I. Asmlali
The Marrakech International Film Festival has announced the selected projects and films for the eighth edition of the Atlas Workshops 2025, under the supervision of Romanian director Cristian Mungiu as the mentor for this edition.
Mungiu expressed his happiness at returning to the festival and considering cinema a tool for understanding others and overcoming stereotypes.
This year's workshops include 28 projects and films, distributed among:
• 12 projects in the development phase from 9 countries, including Morocco, Palestine, Lebanon, and Tanzania, including the first feature films of their creators such as SIMÉON IDRISS – Zineb Wakrim (Morocco) and LES DIEUX DÉLINQUANTS – Aboubacar Sangaré (Burkina Faso).
• 10 films in the filming and post-production phase from 7 countries, including narrative and documentary films, most notably Soli-Solar – Asmae El Moudir (Morocco) and The Slow East Train – Maha Haj (Palestine).
• 5 Moroccan projects within the Regards sur l’Atlas section, all of which are first feature-length films by their creators, such as Remontada – Reda Lahmouid and Today I'm 25 Years Old – Chaden Safieddine Tazazi.
• A Moroccan film in the Atlas Film Showcase section: Until Dawn – Mohamed Zineddine.
The workshops also include a platform for short films and Moroccan talents, with films like Barzakh by Kenza Tazazi and Bride of Rain by Idriss Waamar, in addition to the participation of young professionals from Morocco to enhance their capabilities and communicate with international filmmakers.
This edition embodies the festival's commitment to supporting Moroccan and international cinema, and providing a space for emerging talents to develop their projects and present their creative stories to an international audience.
