HIBAPRESS – Shafiq Anouri
Morocco is heading towards recording an unprecedented number of tourists during the year 2025, after the number of arrivals reached 16.6 million tourists at the end of October, which reinforces the upward trajectory that the sector started since last year, which witnessed the reception of 17.4 million tourists, enabling the Kingdom to top the list of African countries most attractive to visitors.
The year 2024 was a significant turning point after a 20% increase in the number of visitors compared to 2023, i.e., an increase of 3 million tourists, as the number of foreign tourists increased by 23% to 8.8 million, while the number of Moroccans abroad reached 8.6 million, an increase of 17%, before this upward trend continued during the current year 2025. The Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, Social Economy and Solidarity, Fatima Zahra Ammor, announced on Friday in Casablanca that Morocco received 16.6 million tourists by the end of October 2025, an increase of 14 percent compared to the same period last year. Ammor said in a speech during the signing ceremony of a letter of intent between the "Alliance" group and "Rixos Hotels" that this performance reflects the exceptional dynamism witnessed by the sector thanks to the tourism roadmap that was launched in 2023, and the growing confidence of Moroccan and foreign investors. She explained that Morocco has thus become among the twenty most dynamic destinations in the world, and has become the 13th globally, according to the classifications of the United Nations World Tourism Organization, highlighting that since 2023, 43 thousand beds have been created across the Kingdom, which reflects a strong growth in reception capacity. The performance recorded during 2025 reinforces expectations of breaking a new local record, as only 800,000 tourists separate Morocco from surpassing it, which means that exceeding the statistics for last year is a matter of time, taking into account the indicators for November and December, which confirm that they usually achieve high numbers thanks to the end-of-year holiday. Considering the figure achieved by the end of October; is 16.6 million tourists, the average monthly visitors is 1.6 million tourists, which means that Morocco has the opportunity to reach at least 19.92 million tourists by the end of this year, which will strengthen the Kingdom's position at the forefront of African countries in terms of the number of tourists.
