The Moroccan-Senegalese Friendship and Brotherhood Group (CESEMAF) renewed its leadership structures on Saturday in Dakar, during a general assembly held in the presence of a number of Senegalese and Moroccan figures, as well as personalities from the economic and cultural circles of both countries.

In an opening speech during this meeting, the Moroccan Ambassador to Senegal, Hassan Nassiri, highlighted the depth and uniqueness of the ancient relations that unite Morocco and Senegal, which extend over nearly a thousand years of shared history.

The Moroccan diplomat praised, in this context, the role played by the group in strengthening human, social and cultural relations between the two countries, calling for the strengthening of the involvement of young people and women in order to support the association's efforts.

The ambassador called on the group to keep pace with the dynamic of bilateral relations, which was embodied through the reactivation of the Moroccan-Senegalese Joint Grand Committee, the relaunch of the consular committee vital for the two communities, the establishment of a regular program of ministerial visits, in addition to the common will to modernize the framework of cooperation and support a model partnership at the political, economic, cultural and human levels.

Nassiri considered that these entitlements require the renewal of the structures and methods of work of the Friendship Group and the development of a specific work program for the coming months (thematic meetings, joint initiatives and the follow-up of practical projects) within the framework of the spirit of brotherhood and trust that forms a guiding thread that reflects a unique relationship in West Africa and at the continental level.

The general assembly was marked by the election of the former Senegalese Minister of Economy and Finance, Amadou Kane, as the new president of the group, who on this occasion was keen to commend the founder of the late circle, Mokhtar M'Bow (1921 – 2024), the former Director-General of UNESCO and a member of the Moroccan Academy.

Kane expressed, in a statement to the Moroccan News Agency, his determination to raise the ambitions of the group and strengthen initiatives that support the historical and sustainable rapprochement between Morocco and Senegal.

The new president mentioned that Moroccan-Senegalese relations have always proven their strength and exemplary nature, considering that recent developments reaffirm the unity and rapprochement that characterize the two countries.

For his part, the Secretary-General of the group, Mohamed Lahlo, highlighted the adoption of a three-year action plan aimed at strengthening multi-sectoral cooperation and including the fields of health, medical training, culture and traditional industry, utilizing nearly twenty years of joint experiences and initiatives.

Kandi Kanouté, a member of the group, also expressed her pride in contributing to this bilateral dynamic, pointing out that the involvement of the new generation constitutes an extension of this tradition of cooperation, especially in view of its activity in the social, agricultural and food industries.

In the same context, group member Mohamed Hamidouch announced the adoption of a proposal to establish a similar structure in Morocco to support the Senegalese community residing in the Kingdom, and the need to deepen bilateral cooperation, reminding of the convening of the Moroccan-Senegalese Joint Committee in the coming weeks and what it is expected to result in of new joint initiatives.

It should be noted that the Moroccan-Senegalese Friendship Group, which was founded in 2004, continues today the work established by its founder and friend of Morocco, the late Mokhtar M'Bow, whose strategic goals are based on strengthening the bonds of friendship and brotherhood between Moroccans and Senegalese and developing cultural, educational and spiritual exchange and strengthening its institutional structure, in addition to developing solidarity, cooperation and dialogue between the components of the two societies.
