HIBAPRESS – Rabat
Ahmed El Bouari, Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests, confirmed today, Tuesday, in the House of Representatives, that Morocco has been experiencing an unprecedented seven-year drought that has greatly affected the agricultural sector.
He explained that the allocations for irrigation from dam water did not exceed 20% of the actual needs, with priority given to drinking water and other vital sectors such as tourism and industry, while a temporary share of irrigation water not exceeding 8% of the needs of the crops was allocated. Despite these difficult circumstances, the minister highlighted that Moroccan agriculture maintained its productive capacity, protected crops, and saved the livestock to ensure a continuous supply to the national markets, pointing out that these achievements would not have been achieved without the continuous efforts of the Green Morocco Plan, which was launched by King Mohammed VI in 2008.
