28 people died and 3151 others were injured, including 124 seriously, in 2333 traffic accidents recorded within urban areas during the week of November 10 to 16.
A statement from the General Directorate of National Security attributed the main causes of these accidents, in order, to drivers' inattention, failure to yield the right of way, excessive speed, not maintaining a safe distance, pedestrians' inattention, lack of control, failure to stop at a "stop" sign, changing direction without signaling, unauthorized lane changes, driving in the wrong direction, failure to stop at a red light, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving on the left side of the road, and faulty overtaking.
Regarding control and penalties in the field of traffic, the same source clarified that the security services were able to record 49,136 violations, prepare 8,211 reports referred to the Public Prosecution, and collect 40,925 fines.
The statement indicated that the amount collected reached 8,883,250 dirhams, while the number of vehicles placed in the municipal impound was 5,084 vehicles, the number of documents withdrawn was 8,211 documents, and the number of vehicles that were stopped was 498 vehicles.
