HIBAPRESS – Rabat
The Minister Delegate in charge of Relations with Parliament, the official government spokesperson, Mustafa Baitas, stated on Thursday that the number of licensed marine aquaculture farms has reached 300 so far, pointing out the significant development witnessed by this vital sector.
Profound transformation in the sector thanks to government strategy. Baitas explained, while responding to a question about the draft decree related to marine farms following the government council meeting, that the sector is witnessing a "profound transformation" thanks to the new government strategy, which contributed to achieving a qualitative leap in production indicators and creating new job opportunities. He pointed out that this improvement is also related to the integrated units accompanying these farms, which include various links in the value chain from production to packaging and supporting services, which enhanced efficiency and productivity. The minister mentioned that more than 180 projects have been established to support marine aquaculture farms, with the aim of reaching a production exceeding 70,000 tons annually, and providing more than 2,400 direct jobs. He added that these figures represent a remarkable improvement compared to the production before the launch of the strategy, which did not exceed 50 tons at the time. Baitas confirmed that the government council approved today the draft decree number 2.24.830 related to marine aquaculture farms, which comes in application of the provisions of Law No. 84.21, to regulate the activities of marine farms and ensure the sustainable development of this sector.
