The Moroccan Association for the Defense of Consumer Rights, on Thursday, called on citizens to raise awareness of the dangers of misuse of gas water heaters and the need to strictly adhere to safety conditions inside homes, against the backdrop of the noticeable increase in deaths related to these devices.
Ali Shtour, the president of the Moroccan Association for the Defense of Consumer Rights, said in a statement to the newspaper "HIBAPRESS" that a number of deaths recorded in recent years related to these heaters are due to either placing these devices inside bathrooms or in narrow spaces that lack ventilation. In addition, according to Shtour, "the spread of devices of unknown origin that do not meet quality standards makes their use a risk that threatens the lives of consumers," stressing the "importance of purchasing heaters from trusted brands and subject to a certificate of conformity, while avoiding cheap products that do not meet the required technical specifications." The speaker added that the installation of the heater must be done exclusively by a specialized and certified technician to properly adjust all the equipment, confirming that placing the device inside the bathroom poses a direct danger, and that providing adequate ventilation in the installation location remains an essential condition to avoid suffocation or gas leaks. He added that periodic maintenance and cleaning of air vents are part of the prevention that should be adhered to to protect families from any potential risks, calling for tightening the control of heaters circulating in national markets, and activating the provisions of the law related to consumer protection, to ensure the provision of a safe product that respects health safety conditions and preserves the citizen's right to use reliable devices. The president of the Moroccan Association for the Defense of Consumer Rights stressed, at the conclusion of his statement, that protecting lives is a responsibility shared by families, professionals, and relevant authorities, and that collective awareness is the cornerstone to avoid the tragedies that recur every winter.
