Rabat hosts the 28th session of the General Assembly of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization (ACAO)

HIBAPRESS-RABAT-MTL Mr. Mohammed ABDELJALIL, Minister of Transport and Logistics, took part, Wednesday, July 3, 2024 in Rabat, in the opening ceremony of the 28th session of the General Assembly of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization (ACAO). At the beginning of his opening speech on this occasion, the Minister indicated that the organization of this session is part of a context characterized by the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Chicago Convention and its annexes, which contributed to the development of the safety and security of international civil aviation, noting that the organization of this session in the Kingdom of Morocco reflects the special attention paid by our country to joint work for the development of the civil aviation sector.
The Minister added that the Kingdom has made great efforts in this area under the wise supervision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, whether through its support for ACAO, or through its participation in the African Union projects aimed at developing the air transport system on the African continent, in addition to strengthening its cooperation relations with the European Union in this area.
The Minister also highlighted Morocco’s involvement in various programs related to the fight against air pollution, including the ambitious long-term objective of reducing carbon emissions in international aviation by 2050.
In the same context, Mr. ABDELJALIL highlighted the efforts made by Morocco in the areas of cybersecurity and digital transformation relating to the activities of the international civil aviation sector, as well as its willingness to adopt legal and regulatory changes, in order to promote this sector, whether at the international or Arab level.
Mr. ABDELJALIL added that the organization of this session is part of the preparations for the joint organization of the 2030 World Cup, highlighting the importance of the role of civil aviation in the success of these major international events. In this regard, the Minister reviewed the major projects and projects launched by the Kingdom in terms of airport infrastructure and the development of air transport.
He also indicated that at the level of infrastructure, Morocco is working on the expansion and renovation of a number of airports, while ensuring the development of air navigation equipment, in addition to strengthening the Kingdom’s air connectivity, particularly through low-cost companies.
In addition, the Minister stressed that Morocco was able to raise to 85.25% the average of the civil aviation safety audit, conducted by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), thus reflecting the efforts made by our country for the development of the civil aviation sector.
It should be noted that the work of the 28th session of the ACAO General Assembly, which will continue on July 3 and 4, 2024, will see the transfer of the presidency of the session to Libya.
The agenda includes the election of members of the Executive Council and the technical committees of the organization as well as the examination of Arab candidacies for the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
This Council is composed of 9 member states elected by the General Assembly every two years, while the General Assembly, which is the highest authority of the organization, includes all member states.
