The Internal Affairs, Local Authorities and Basic Infrastructure Committee in the House of Councillors unanimously approved, today, Friday, three draft laws concerning the electoral system, as referred to it by the House of Representatives, in the presence of the Minister of Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit.
These are draft organic law No. 53.25 amending and supplementing organic law No. 27.11 concerning the House of Representatives, draft organic law No. 54.25 amending and supplementing organic law No. 29.11 concerning political parties, and draft law No. 55.25 amending and supplementing law No. 57.11 concerning general electoral lists and referendum operations and the use of public audiovisual communication during election and referendum campaigns.
The committee did not make any amendments to these texts, given their urgent national character, in line with the high royal directives calling for the implementation of the electoral system before the end of the year, as well as the fact that the texts took a full portion of the debate within the House of Representatives.
The discussion within the committee focused on a set of provisions related to preventing persons in a state of being caught in the act from eligibility to run for elections, penalties, and enhancing the representation of youth and women within the parliamentary institution, where the Minister of Interior affirmed his openness to all proposals that would strengthen the process of moralizing the electoral process and protecting constitutional institutions, foremost of which is the Parliament.
These organic laws are expected to be referred to the Constitutional Court in order to express its opinion on them before their adoption.
