HIBAPRESS – Ahmed Al-Musaed
The Municipal Stadium in Oujda witnessed an unfortunate end to the Eastern Derby that brought together the Mouloudia Oujda and Ittihad Islamia Oujda teams on Saturday, December 6th, as part of the eleventh round of the second professional league.
Despite the match ending with a 3-0 victory for Mouloudia Oujda, the atmosphere of sports competition turned into widespread chaos, riots, and vandalism. After the final whistle, violent clashes erupted between the fans of the two teams, marked by the exchange of stones, resulting in injuries among the fans. Vandalism also affected the stadium's property, with the following damages recorded: Destruction of fences: Damage and destruction of the fences surrounding the stadium's pitch. Damage to the grass: Damage to the artificial turf as a result of the throwing and use of fireworks by the fans. The heavy security cordon imposed by various security formations contributed to controlling the situation and preventing the circle of rioting from spreading outside the stadium, where the damage could have reached more dangerous levels if it were not for the vigilance and rapid intervention of the public forces. These events once again raise questions about the need to tighten preventive and deterrent measures to address the phenomenon of stadium riots that harm national sport.
