The death toll from the horrific traffic accident that occurred in the center of Fnideq on Saturday, December 6th, has risen to six fatalities, after two additional injured individuals passed away from their serious injuries, according to local sources on Sunday evening.
The accident shook the city when the driver of a large truck loaded with construction materials lost control of it, crashing into two buildings of three and four stories; the first included a café and residential apartments, while the second contained shops and an unclassified hotel. The violent collision led to a fire inside one of the buildings, which increased the severity of the situation and contributed to the increase in the number of victims. Local authorities in the prefecture of M'diq-Fnideq reported in a previous statement that four people died immediately after the accident, while eight others were injured to varying degrees, before the death toll later rose to six after two deaths were recorded at the hospital. As soon as they were notified of the accident, the security and local authorities and elements of the civil defense rushed to the scene, where they began firefighting, rescue operations, and the evacuation of the victims, before transporting the injured to the Hassan II Hospital in Fnideq to receive the necessary treatments and medical examinations. The city is experiencing a state of sadness and anticipation, while investigations continue to determine the real reasons behind this tragic accident, which has left a great shock among the population.
