HIBAPRESS – Fes
The chapters of the human tragedy continue in the village of Al-Qubba, affiliated with the Sidi El-Makhfi community in the Ifrane region, where the body of the woman who passed away last night is still trapped in the snow, awaiting burial, in a shocking situation that has sparked a wave of anger and widespread resentment among the local residents.
According to sources on the ground, the heavy snowfall and the difficulty of the road routes have made access to the village almost impossible, which has prevented the transfer of the deceased's body to the village cemetery and its burial under conditions that preserve human dignity, at a time when the residents confirm that no actual intervention by the concerned authorities has been recorded until now. The deceased's family, along with the residents of the village, are living in a state of sadness mixed with anger, considering that the continuation of isolation even after death is a blatant violation of citizens' dignity and reflects the extent of the fragility that the mountainous areas suffer during periods of climate disturbances. In light of this situation, questions are being raised about the position of the Ministry of Interior and its role in activating emergency intervention mechanisms and harnessing logistical and human resources to break the isolation of the affected villages, not only to save lives, but also to guarantee the most basic human rights, foremost of which is the burial of the dead in reasonable time and decent conditions. Local and human rights activists questioned the extent of the activation of regional alert committees and proactive intervention plans that are supposed to be adopted annually in areas known for heavy snowfall, especially since the Ifrane region is classified among the areas that witness repeated isolation during the winter season. The residents demanded an urgent and immediate intervention by the regional and central authorities, and that the responsible parties assume their full responsibilities, calling on the Ministry of Interior to clarify its position on what is happening and open an investigation into the causes of this delay, which has exacerbated the magnitude of the tragedy, and put an end to the suffering of the residents that is repeated every year with the first snowfall. The eyes remain focused on what the authorities will do in the coming hours, awaiting the breaking of the isolation of the village of Al-Qubba, and enabling the deceased's family of their human right to bury their daughter, and avoiding other tragedies that may be on the way if the situation continues as it is. In this context, the residents recalled the working method of the former territorial official, Abdelhamid El-Mezidi, who was keen to move to various villages in the field, including rugged and isolated areas, and would not rest until he had checked the conditions of the residents closely, especially in the villages that experience heavy snowfall and difficulty on road routes.
