Authorities allow export of onions and potatoes to Africa, set maximum quantities allowed

After months of halting the export of certain products to African markets, such as onions and potatoes, the flow of trucks loaded with these products resumed this week leaving the Guerguerat border post heading south.
In this regard, Hiba Press learned that the Moroccan authorities have authorized the resumption of the export of onions and potatoes to African markets, following the stabilization of their prices on the local market and the achievement of self-sufficiency.
Despite the export authorization, this is subject to conditions, including not exceeding the maximum quantity set, which has been determined at 1,500 tonnes as the maximum exportable from Morocco.
According to specific data, this amount will be distributed among the onion and potato producing regions of the kingdom, with an equal proportion for each region, including Casablanca-Settat, the West, Meknes and Souss, known for their abundance of onion and potato production.
In addition, the Moroccan authorities have decided to adopt a special system to monitor the quantities exported and their compliance with the conditions agreed to resume exports, with the aim of maintaining the abundance of products on the national market and ensuring the stability of their prices.
