HIBAPRESS – Oujda
The regional office of the National Health Federation in Oujda, under the umbrella of the Moroccan Labour Union (UMT), sent a letter to the regional director of Health and Social Protection in the Oriental region, under the supervision of the regional secretary, which described the situation as "dangerous", demanding urgent intervention to protect health cadres and users from imminent dangers that threaten their physical safety. The union statement stated that the "Al-Farabi" Regional Hospital Center is experiencing a catastrophic situation resulting from rainwater leakage into several vital departments, including the resuscitation department, chest diseases, radiology, and the health laboratory. The source explained that water has begun to surround electrical wires and sensitive medical equipment, which portends electrical shocks or damage to the equipment, in the absence of any proactive plan or field visits from officials.
Even more controversial, according to the letter, is that the leaks have even affected the departments that recently underwent restoration, which raises major questions about the quality of work and the extent to which the terms of reference were respected, which prompted the union to demand an investigation and accountability for the parties that approved those deals. The union's report was not limited to the structural aspect, but extended to include "deep imbalances" in the management of human resources, where the National Health Federation spoke of appointments and assignments subject to the logic of rent-seeking, loyalties, and clientelism, far from the principle of merit and the law. This situation, in their words, has led to the "exhaustion of health cadres" and the creation of a charged atmosphere that threatens the stability of the public facility.
Urgent demands and a warning of escalation
In conclusion of its letter, the union confined its demands to four basic points:
Immediate cessation of work in dilapidated buildings and the provision of safe alternatives.
Correcting the course of human resource management in accordance with the laws in force.
Opening an administrative investigation into the observed violations, especially those related to subcontracting companies.
Holding an urgent meeting with the union office to inform them of the measures taken.
The regional office of (UMT) warned that any "delay" or "disregard" of these demands will be met with escalating forms of struggle, stressing that the dignity of health cadres and the safety of users are a red line that cannot be crossed.
