HIBAPRESS – Sports
The statement issued by the Senegalese Football Federation, prior to the final of the 2025 African Cup of Nations held in Morocco, sparked a wave of widespread displeasure in Moroccan sports and media circles, after it included accusations regarding the organization and security of the tournament, which many considered unfair and not reflective of the reality of the preparations that accompanied the competition since its inception.
Moroccan followers believed that the timing of the statement, issued less than 48 hours before the final match between the Moroccan and Senegalese teams, raises more than one question mark, especially since the tournament was widely praised by numerous African federations and teams, in addition to international media reports that praised the organizational level and infrastructure provided by Morocco.
Moroccan sports figures criticized what they described as an attempt to disrupt the atmosphere of the final, considering that raising organizational and security issues at this sensitive time does not serve the image of African football, nor does it align with the spirit of sports competition that is supposed to characterize this continental event.
Regarding the points included in the Senegalese statement, observers clarified that the security and logistical aspects are subject to protocols approved by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and are applied to all teams without discrimination, pointing out that any organizational observations are addressed through official channels, away from media statements.
The Senegalese Federation's objection to conducting training at the Mohammed VI complex also sparked widespread surprise, especially since this sports facility is among the best training centers on the continental and international level, and has previously received international teams without raising any reservations.
Regarding the ticket issue, those interested considered that the allocations for the fans are subject to organizational decisions issued by "CAF", and have nothing to do with the local organizing committee, stressing that Morocco has adhered to all the approved guidelines to ensure a fair and organized distribution of tickets.
Observers believe that Morocco, as the organizing country of the tournament, has been keen from the beginning to provide the best conditions for all participating teams, within the framework of an approach based on professionalism and transparency, which has made the 2025 edition widely praised by followers and sports officials.
In light of this controversy, Moroccan voices stressed the need to focus on the sports aspect, and respect the spirit of competition, as befits a final match that brings together two great teams, and a continental event that reflects the development of African football and its ability to organize major events to high standards.
