The President of the French National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, stated on Thursday in Rabat that the Moroccan-French parliamentary forum constitutes an important framework for consultation and cooperation, distinguished by its value and rarity on the international level.
Braun-Pivet explained, in a speech during the opening of the fifth session of the forum, that this meeting would enable parliamentarians to continue, expand, and embody the various areas of cooperation between Morocco and France. She added that giving practical content to this cooperation and ensuring its success passes through betting on the great potential of parliamentary cooperation, highlighting that this conviction is based on tangible experience and is not just a theoretical concept. In the same context, she recalled the institutional twinning that brought together the House of Representatives and the National Assembly during the period between 2022 and 2024, which contributed to intensifying exchanges, organizing expert missions, and exchanging best practices. She stressed that the four parliamentary chambers have the ability to produce concrete initiatives, confirming that this trend constitutes a cornerstone for strengthening the bonds of friendship between the two peoples. She noted, on the other hand, that the Moroccan-French partnership has a geopolitical dimension, highlighting that considering Morocco a pillar of regional stability pushes France to defend the conclusion of a comprehensive strategic partnership between the European Union and the Kingdom. The President of the National Assembly highlighted the strength of French-Moroccan friendship, noting that France has consistently supported Morocco in its fundamental issues and challenges. In this context, she praised the decision of the United Nations Security Council, which confirmed that self-governance under Moroccan sovereignty constitutes the only basis for reaching a just and lasting solution. She affirmed, on the other hand, that the ties that bind the two countries go beyond traditional relations, as they stem from a strategic convergence and an exceptional enhanced partnership, which was consecrated during the state visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Morocco in October 2024 at the invitation of King Mohammed VI. She added that the destiny of the two countries is intertwined on both sides of the Mediterranean, noting that joint cooperation includes confronting terrorism, drug trafficking, and the crises of the Sahel and the Middle East, in addition to the challenges related to climate change, which necessitates strengthening this cooperation through the use of parliamentary diplomacy. Braun-Pivet concluded by emphasizing that French-Moroccan relations have entered a new golden age since November 2024, considering that this path has today reached an advanced stage of prosperity.
