HIBAPRESS – MAP
As part of the process of sheltering those affected by the floods in the city of Ksar El Kebir, the National Camping Center of the Diplomatic Forest in Tangier has received a large number of people since yesterday.
The center, which has a capacity of 600 people, and is not far from the Mohammed VI University Hospital Center, has received 400 people from the city of Ksar El Kebir since Tuesday, who were evacuated from the neighborhoods and areas threatened by the rising water level of the Loukkos River. The Moroccan News Agency monitored the tremendous efforts made by the local authorities, all stakeholders, security forces, and the Moroccan Red Crescent in organizing the shelter process for the affected in good conditions, and providing the necessary and urgent assistance. The center, which has decent infrastructure and is of a high standard, is divided into two wings, one for women and children, and the other for men, equipped with everything necessary to provide comfort and good accommodation for the affected. These affected people, since their arrival yesterday, despite the heavy rainfall that the city of Tangier is also witnessing, have been provided with everything they need, including food, clothing, mattresses, medicines, and first aid for cases that require it. The center has other spaces, including a warehouse where what is distributed is prepared, according to need, from mattresses, clothing, and everything the families who have settled in this center need. A health center and pharmacy have been set up at the service of the affected, equipped with the necessary medical devices and all types of medicines, with care being taken to follow up on medical cases, especially for people suffering from chronic diseases. In this context, the regional coordinator of ambulance and emergency services for the Moroccan Red Crescent in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, Mohamed Ajbari, confirmed that the presence of the Red Crescent in this center is part of its basic tasks in assisting the public, health, and military authorities in case of emergency. The paramedics also worked tirelessly to alleviate the psychological burden on the affected, highlighting that the center has an advanced health center for therapeutic and first aid interventions. According to the official, simple interventions are carried out inside the center, while some complex cases are transferred to hospitals in full coordination with the health authorities, stressing that the Moroccan Red Crescent has paramedics trained in the field of disaster and risk management in general. He praised the tremendous efforts of the public authorities in providing all the appropriate conditions to receive the affected, and the logistical and human resources they have mobilized to protect human dignity. A number of the affected, from all age groups, in statements obtained by the Moroccan News Agency, praised the good conditions that have been provided to them in this center and the efforts of the local authorities and all those involved in providing assistance, and what the center has in terms of conditions for a decent life while waiting for the climate fluctuations to stabilize and life to return to normal in their city of Ksar El Kebir. This operation, in general, falls within the framework of the solidarity approach adopted by the authorities to address the repercussions of this exceptional climatic situation, and to alleviate the suffering of the affected population in the city of Ksar El Kebir. It is worth noting that the evacuation of citizens from the city of Ksar El Kebir continues rapidly towards the cities and safe areas outside the Loukkos basin, especially the city of Fnideq, Larache, and Tangier.
