HIBAPRESS – Mohamed Zriouh
In an unprecedented support for one of the major port and industrial projects in the north of the Kingdom, Rabat witnessed the signing of a new grant agreement aimed at accelerating the readiness of the Nador West Med complex, while strengthening its digital, energy and institutional infrastructure. This agreement represents a strategic step towards enabling the complex to enter into service according to the highest international standards, and consolidating Morocco's role as a prestigious industrial and logistical center.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development signed a grant agreement worth 2.1 million euros with the Betoya Industrial and Logistics Zone in Nador, as part of an integrated technical cooperation program aimed at enhancing the readiness of the industrial port complex. The signing took place in the presence of the Bank's director in Morocco and project officials, in an affirmative step to structure support for strategic projects in the eastern region of the Kingdom. This program complements previous financing of 120 million euros that was granted to the complex in 2025. The new support covers vital areas such as the digitization of management and operation procedures, which contributes to simplifying administrative procedures and developing resilient infrastructure in the face of future challenges. It also includes the integration of sustainable energy solutions within the design and development of the region, thereby enhancing its sustainability in various fields. Among the main axes of this program comes accelerating the digital transformation of the industrial and logistics zone, through the establishment of a fully automated one-stop shop that facilitates investors to take the necessary measures to launch their projects. This simplified path enhances the region's attractiveness as an investment destination, which contributes to attracting both national and international investments. It is a very important step towards strengthening the national economy. The program also includes the preparation of a plan for sustainable infrastructure that integrates climate resilience elements, to secure the region's response to future environmental changes. At the same time, it aims to enhance human competencies within the institution supervising the project, by developing the technical and administrative skills necessary to launch the complex and the economic zones adjacent to it, which contributes to strengthening the culture of continuous performance improvement. In a statement, the official of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development confirmed that this program reflects the institution's commitment to supporting regional development in Morocco and enhancing its economic competitiveness at the regional and international levels. The program aims to make the Nador West Med complex a reference industrial and logistical center, and encourages attracting investments and creating new job opportunities. It is worth mentioning that Morocco, as a founding member of the Bank, has benefited from the institution's investments that exceeded 6 billion euros in 125 projects since its joining in 2012.
