Many Moroccans, especially low-income families with children, find themselves in a difficult situation with the arrival of summer and the children’s desire to spend the holidays in a coastal city.
The high and continuous expenses weigh heavily on the shoulders of parents, which has pushed some to turn to banking institutions to borrow, taking advantage of the promotional offers proposed by banks for those who wish to travel this summer.
As a result, some Moroccans find themselves forced to borrow to go on holiday, which is pushing banks to intensify their competition to attract the greatest number of customers by offering seasonal services specific to summer holidays.
On this subject, a social media user commented on a bank announcement saying: “We bought Eid on credit, we will spend the summer on credit, the school year is coming, we will need credit, our life has become a credit on credit, we will continue to repay credits until we die. What meaning does life have for us?”
Faced with financial difficulties and the coincidence of the summer holidays with Eid al-Adha, which also requires expenses, many Moroccans preferred to stay at home and spend the summer in their cities of residence. This year, it has been observed that the influx to some destinations, such as the northern cities, is no longer as significant as in previous years.
