HIBAPRESS – Abdellatif Baraka
Informed sources have stated that the Attorney General at the Court of Appeal in Rabat, Abdelaziz Raji, has instructed the National Judicial Police Brigade to open an investigation into a number of files related to directorates and academies of education, following complaints and reports revealing financial and administrative irregularities within the national education sector.
This legal step comes in response to official requests from the Ministry of National Education, following reports from the General Inspection Committee of the Ministry and audits that revealed violations in educational deals and acquisitions and violations of public procurement provisions in multiple contracts concerning the regional directorates of education. The results of these reports have been referred to the Public Prosecution at the Court of Appeal in Rabat, which in turn tasked the National Judicial Police Brigade with the investigation to deepen the procedures and investigate the circumstances, in a move aimed at clarifying the truth and the responsibility of those concerned and determining whether there are actions that constitute misdemeanors or crimes against public funds and the law regulating public procurement. These developments come in a continuous context of judicial scrutiny and oversight of some public sector files, in an attempt to activate the role of the judiciary in following up on potential irregularities within state institutions, after suspicions related to about contracts and deals of significant financial dimensions were documented.
