HIBAPRESS
In light of the challenges that the fisheries sector is experiencing as a result of unfavorable climatic conditions that have affected fishing activity during the recent period, and the resulting decline in fishing discharges in a number of ports, the State Secretariat for Maritime Fisheries continues to mobilize the various stakeholders in the sector to ensure the supply of national markets with fish products and maintain the stability of their supply by diversifying supply and offering frozen fish in various cities of the Kingdom.
In this context, the "Hout at a reasonable price" initiative, which aims to bring fish closer to citizens at reasonable prices, offers various marine products in more than 47 cities. This initiative falls within a participatory approach that brings together fishing professionals and fish merchants, through cooperation with various departments of the Ministry of Interior, with the aim of facilitating citizens' access to marine products of good quality and at reasonable prices. Despite the circumstantial decline in fishing discharges as a result of the unfavorable weather conditions that have limited the exit of a number of fishing boats to the sea, the measures taken by the State Secretariat have contributed to maintaining an acceptable level of supply within the markets. These measures include strengthening market regulation mechanisms, encouraging the direction of an important part of production towards the national market, in addition to supporting initiatives that aim to reduce mediation links and improve the conditions for the distribution of marine products, especially the "Hout at a reasonable price" initiative. The "Hout at a reasonable price" initiative also contributed to creating a positive dynamic within the markets by providing a number of fish varieties at prices affordable for consumers, which was met with great demand from citizens and contributed to mitigating the impact of circumstantial fluctuations in supply. The State Secretariat for Maritime Fisheries continues, in coordination with the various actors in the sector, to monitor the development of the supply of national markets and take the necessary measures to ensure the availability of marine products by diversifying supply according to climatic conditions and stabilizing fish prices, which ensures the protection of citizens' purchasing power and at the same time maintains the sustainability of fish resources. Reliable sources in the State Secretariat for Maritime Fisheries confirm that sardine fishing activity usually records a decline during the months of February and March, due to changes in water temperature, which affects the distribution and presence of these fish on the coasts, but the State Secretariat continues its efforts to supply the markets by diversifying supply and marketing frozen fish.
