In a step aimed at supporting the reform of the criminal justice system, Taza hosted the signing of a partnership and cooperation agreement between the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports and the local prison, in the context of activating the provisions of Law No. 43.22 related to alternative penalties.
This initiative falls within the framework of adopting a modern approach based on reintegration and rehabilitation, by providing the opportunity for convicts to benefit from alternatives to short-term custodial sentences, especially through work for the public good within educational and administrative institutions. The meeting was attended by a number of educational and administrative officials, where the importance of this partnership in enabling beneficiaries to engage in activities with an educational and formative dimension was emphasized, which contributes to strengthening their values of responsibility and discipline. During this meeting, various mechanisms to monitor the implementation of this agreement and evaluate its results were also reviewed, with a keenness to provide the necessary framework for the beneficiaries, in a way that ensures the achievement of the desired goals at the level of social integration and reducing recidivism. This agreement reflects the trend towards establishing a balance between the requirements of deterrence and the goals of reform, by adopting more effective and humane alternative solutions, which contribute to reducing pressure on prison institutions and enhancing opportunities for reintegration into society.
