The Spanish Public Prosecution has demanded a one-year prison sentence for an individual accused of facilitating the transport of a group of Moroccan migrants to the occupied port of Ceuta, in preparation for boarding a boat waiting to take them to the Iberian Peninsula.
According to a Spanish newspaper, the incident dates back to September 6, when the group was led to the western maritime barrier area of the port, with the aim of facilitating their departure from the city in exchange for a financial benefit, the value of which is suspected to have been agreed upon but not specified.
The Public Prosecution considers that the acts attributed to the defendant may constitute a crime against the rights of foreign citizens, also demanding his disqualification from running for elections for the duration of the sentence, while opposing the suspension of the prison sentence.
The trial is expected to be held in the coming weeks, where the court will determine the extent to which the charges are proven and the criminal responsibility of the defendant, who remains innocent until a final judicial ruling is issued.
