HIBAPRESS – Tangier
A fatal accident that occurred at the Al-Nakheel complex in Tangier on Wednesday evening has reignited concerns about the safety of users of the complex's main road, which extends along the road leading to Tangier Ibn Battuta Airport, near the roundabout of the two seas. The accident claimed the life of a citizen, according to available data.
This incident has once again highlighted the residents' demands to curb the excessive speed on the road, especially in light of the traffic of cars, trucks, and motorcycles, and the accompanying risks to pedestrians, particularly children, students, and the elderly who cross the street daily, according to residents' accounts.
The residents are calling on the competent authorities to take practical measures to enhance road safety, including the installation of speed bumps that meet technical standards, the creation of clear pedestrian crossings, strengthening road signage, and increasing surveillance to curb reckless driving and excessive speed.
Despite the intervention of the Beni Makada district and local authorities at administrative annex 24 bis in response to residents' demands by installing plastic speed bumps on the street, parts of them were uprooted by passing vehicles, as reported by residents, which reopened the discussion about the suitability of these facilities for the volume of traffic on the axis.
It is worth noting that the residents are insisting on the necessity of moving towards more effective and sustainable solutions to avoid the recurrence of accidents and protect the lives of road users.
