A pharmacist from the town of Zayo was the victim of a fraud, the fraudster having taken advantage of her trust by posing as the head of the town’s police commission, in order to steal a significant sum of money amounting to at 14 thousand dirhams.

According to informed sources, the fraudster called the pharmacist pretending to be the head of the police commission and telling him that he was on a family outing and that he urgently needed the aforementioned sum. He assured her that he would return the money the same day, prompting her to transfer the amount directly from her bank account. The fraudster withdrew the money via the “cardless withdrawal” service from one of the electronic teller machines.

The scammer’s attempts didn’t stop there, as he attempted to target other pharmacies and dentists in the city. But one of the doctors saw his trick and failed. As for the pharmacist, she only discovered the fraud too late, which prompted her to file a complaint with Zayo’s national security services.

It is expected that security authorities will open an investigation into the incident in order to identify and arrest the perpetrator. This incident highlights the importance of being aware of suspicious calls and verifying the identity of callers, especially when requesting financial transactions.
