The reception of Abdelmadjid Tebboune for his Chadian counterpart Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno sparked a wave of criticism regarding the credibility of Algerian political and media discourse, especially concerning the file of relations with Israel.
The bad neighbor, which tries to present itself as one of the most prominent rejecters of normalization in the region, revealed its hypocrisy and its ongoing contradictions during Tebboune's reception of the president of a country that took a clear step towards normalization, by visiting Tel Aviv and opening its embassy there. The reception of the Chadian president, who arrived a few days ago on an official visit to the eastern neighbor, received extensive coverage and praise from Algerian media outlets, which sparked criticism from some followers who pointed out that these same media outlets used to attack countries that established diplomatic relations with Israel and directed harsh accusations against them. The duality of the positions of the bad neighbor and its diplomatic hypocrisy raises a number of questions, foremost of which is, how can one reconcile attacking countries because of their sovereign choices, and welcoming a partner who has made the same choice?
