In a new escalating step, the unions of the Ministries of Equipment, Water, Transport, and Logistics held a national strike today, Tuesday, accompanied by two protest stands, to demand a response to their social and professional demands.
The union coordination, which includes the Moroccan Labour Union, the National Labour Union in Morocco, and the Democratic Confederation of Labour and its affiliated agencies, explained that this escalation comes in the context of demanding the achievement of wage justice among the various employees and agents of the two ministries, through a comprehensive review of the wage and compensation system to ensure the reduction of disparities and the achievement of fairness. The unions criticised what they described as the "meagre outcome" of social dialogue, expressing their condemnation of the continued disregard for the demands of the working class, and what they considered "systematic exclusion" compared to other sectors that have benefited from wage increases and the establishment of new basic systems. The same source confirmed that the escalation decision came after exhausting all rounds of dialogue without reaching tangible results, considering this as evidence of the "absence of a real will" by the concerned parties to settle the long-standing files. The most prominent demands include the establishment of a just basic system that keeps pace with the strategic importance of the equipment and transport sectors, the improvement of compensation, as well as the fair treatment of non-tenured agents who live in precarious professional conditions. The union coordination also denounced what it described as "unjustified discrimination" affecting these two vital sectors, warning that the continuation of this situation could undermine confidence in the seriousness of the reforms and increase the intensity of social tension.
